A Sample Macbeth Analysis Essay Example For Students

A Sample Macbeth Analysis Essay Individuals make some hard memories getting what they need; indeed, the things they need can be incongruent with one another. A German physicist named Werner Heisenberg found a practically equivalent to wonder with his vulnerability standard. Contemplating matter at the nuclear level, quantum material science, he understood that the demonstration of estimating influenced the item being estimated. Thus, one would never precisely decide both position and energy of an electron with exactness. The endeavor to arrive at one of these objectives hurt the other, and a comparative wonder is found in our regular daily existences. In William Shakespeares Macbeth 1606, the hero is baited to kill the lord, Duncan, by the longing for power, a craving whetted by witchs predictions and his wifes consolation. Be that as it may, when he arrives at the authority, he gets himself uncertain. He endeavors to expel dangers that decline his security, including his partner Banquo and his child Fleance, forecasted to be best. His masters become furious and revolt effectively, after witches draw Macbeth into a misguided feeling that all is well and good by further foreseeing. In Macbeth, we see that, in spite of appearances of mystery, keeps an eye on objectives of solace and force are everlastingly contradicted in increase, however the two may decay together. The force from information causes inconvenience. As frequently has been stated, numbness is joy. After Macbeth is guaranteed the position of royalty, Banquo inquires as to why Macbeth is not exactly elated. Great sir, for what reason do you start, and appear to fear/Things that do sound so reasonable? Act I, Scene 3, p. 332 Macbeths new information makes him awkward, as he understands the suggestions. His first contemplations considering killing Duncan show up, and he is terrified. After he submits the homicide, Macbeth says, To know my deed, twere best not know myself. Act II, Scene 2, p. 347 Knowing that has submitted such an abominable demonstration makes him awkward. It will be hard to act honest and to manage his blame. At the point when he later chooses to kill Banquo and Fleance, he tells his better half, Be guiltless of the information, dearest throw,/Till thou hail the deed. Act III, Scene 2, p. 359 Hecate sets Macbeth up for his last fall, clarifying her technique, As by the quality of their dream Will attract him on to his disarray. He will reject destiny, disdain demise, and bear His expectations bove astuteness, beauty, and dread. Also, all of you know security Is humans chiefest adversary. Act III, Scene 5, p. 365 The security gave constantly set of expectations is just transitory. Feeling there is no risk to his capacity, Macbeth acts fiercely, bringing his ruin and loss of both solace and security. The issue with information was that it was power bringing about a decrease in comfort. Those most agreeable have the least force. The satisfaction in security blocks quality. The Porter conveys an amusing discourse on the wrongs of drink, clarifying, Lechery, sir, it incites and unprovokes: it incites the longing, yet it removes the exhibition: in this way much beverage might be saidâ to be an equivocator with salacity: it makes him, and it damages him; it sets him on, and it takes him off; it convinces him and unsettles him; makes him remain to and not remain; taking everything into account, quibbles him in a rest, and giving him the untruth, leaves him. Act II, Scene 3, p. 348 While drink may cause comfort, this is negated by its different impacts. It removes the force, the exhibition. This reviews the gatekeepers, serenely sleeping yet not standing watchman, the last their judgment, as they are said to stand and slaughter the lord and afterward quit remaining to. After the homicide, Duncans children Malcolm and Donalbain choose to swear off the intensity of the aut hority. Says Donalbain, Where we are/Theres blades in mens grins; the close in blood,/The closer bleeding. Act II, Scene 3, p. 351 He understands that his dad was killed as a result of the position he was in. It would be a lot more secure to not be lord, in spite of the misfortune in influence, in light of the fact that the dangers are excessively extraordinary. Force fills in as both a gift and a revile. .u01ebb6428e42254a4aae719435bf41d4 , .u01ebb6428e42254a4aae719435bf41d4 .postImageUrl , .u01ebb6428e42254a4aae719435bf41d4 .focused content region { min-stature: 80px; position: relative; } .u01ebb6428e42254a4aae719435bf41d4 , .u01ebb6428e42254a4aae719435bf41d4:hover , .u01ebb6428e42254a4aae719435bf41d4:visited , .u01ebb6428e42254a4aae719435bf41d4:active { border:0!important; } .u01ebb6428e42254a4aae719435bf41d4 .clearfix:after { content: ; show: table; clear: both; } .u01ebb6428e42254a4aae719435bf41d4 { show: square; change: foundation shading 250ms; webkit-progress: foundation shading 250ms; width: 100%; haziness: 1; progress: obscurity 250ms; webkit-progress: murkiness 250ms; foundation shading: #95A5A6; } .u01ebb6428e42254a4aae719435bf41d4:active , .u01ebb6428e42254a4aae719435bf41d4:hover { darkness: 1; change: mistiness 250ms; webkit-change: haziness 250ms; foundation shading: #2C3E50; } .u01ebb6428e42254a4aae719435bf41d4 .focused content region { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u01ebb6428e42254a4aae719435bf41d4 .ctaText { fringe base: 0 strong #fff; shading: #2980B9; text dimension: 16px; textual style weight: striking; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; content adornment: underline; } .u01ebb6428e42254a4aae719435bf41d4 .postTitle { shading: #FFFFFF; text dimension: 16px; textual style weight: 600; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; width: 100%; } .u01ebb6428e42254a4aae719435bf41d4 .ctaButton { foundation shading: #7F8C8D!important; shading: #2980B9; outskirt: none; fringe range: 3px; box-shadow: none; text dimension: 14px; text style weight: intense; line-tallness: 26px; moz-fringe span: 3px; content adjust: focus; content beautification: none; content shadow: none; width: 80px; min-tallness: 80px; foundation: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/modules/intelly-related-posts/resources/pictures/straightforward arrow.png)no-rehash; position: outright; right: 0; top: 0; } .u01ebb6428e42254a4aae719435bf41d4:hover .ctaButton { foundation shading: #34495E!important; } .u01e bb6428e42254a4aae719435bf41d4 .focused content { show: table; tallness: 80px; cushioning left: 18px; top: 0; } .u01ebb6428e42254a4aae719435bf41d4-content { show: table-cell; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; cushioning right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-adjust: center; width: 100%; } .u01ebb6428e42254a4aae719435bf41d4:after { content: ; show: square; clear: both; } READ: Awakening By Kate Chopin EssayGaining power causes inconvenience. When attempting to pick up power, wanting to build their pleasure, individuals wind up wracked with blame and suspicion. Macbeth perceives how fortunate the dead and feeble Duncan truly is the point at which he remarks In eager bliss. Duncan is in his grave; After lifes erratic fever he rests soundly. Treachery has done his most noticeably awful; nor steel, nor poison, Vindictiveness household, remote toll, nothing, Can contact him further. Act III, Scene 2, p. 358 Duncan has no force however faces no dangers either. He is a lot more secure than Macbeth, who lives in dread of losing the position of royalty. As he watched, To be in this manner is nothing,/But to be securely hence. Act III, Scene 1, p. 355 His capacity as ruler wasnt truly as extraordinary as he however it would be, and his capacity is truly in vain in light of the fact that he feels so undermined. A similar thought is found again when his better half opines Noughts had, alls spent, Where our craving is got without content. Tis more secure to be what we devastate Than by pulverization abide in suspicious euphoria. Act III, Scene 2, p. 358 All that they had done to pick up the force they wanted just prompted more noteworthy inconvenience, as they found the dead were a lot more joyful than they. Macbeth echoes her musings, saying Should be with the dead, Whom we, to pick up our tranquility, have sent to harmony, Than on the torment of the brain to lie In fretful rapture. Act III, Scene 2, p. 358 After the homicide, Lady Macbeth is upset by sentiments of blame, making her rest erratic and awkward. Out, doomed spot! Out, I state! One-two - why then tis time to spot. Damnation is dim. Fie, my ruler, fie! A fighter, and afeard? What need we dread who knows it, when none can demand an explanation from our capacity? However who might have thought theâ old man to have had such a great amount of blood in him? Act V, Scene 1, p. 382 Lady Macbeth is experiencing her very own disease cause. The force carried with it much anguish and inconvenience. Despite the fact that individuals look for both strength and charming security, the two closures are in struggle. The intensity of information and the quest for power lead to a decrease in comfort, and those without power locate the most solace. Macbeth and his significant other see power as inconvenient, with those they murdered in any event, getting a charge out of a progressively lovely life. Like attempting to quantify two elements with exactness, attempting to arrive at the two objectives to a high degree is inconceivable. Simultaneously, the two can decrease together. I myself have felt the issue of this conundrum. Quite a bit of my capacity make me awkward. For instance, when I need to settle on significant choices or when I know more than I need to. A parity should be found between smug security and perilous quest for power.

People would want more stuff and houses would need to be built as well as highrise buildings in urban centers to accommodate the density of people in the cities. All these factors caused a rise in demand for industrial goods in a large market. There is more reason, though, that large-scale industries were growing. New inventions helped a great deal in making the large-scale manufacturing of industrial goods possible. The Bessemer process, for example, helped the manufacturing of steel in the steel industry, made it possible to produce large quantities of steel in a relatively short period of time. The invention of electric power by Thomas Edison allowed factory machinery to be run by electricity, cutting the cost of employing people to run the machinery while increasing the productivity of the machines. Always increasing productivity, these inventions and others like it were essential to progression of big industry. these were harnessed and effectively put into use by big businesses. Big businesses were the economic powers behind the growth of their industries. With corporations, unlike earlier, businesses could outlive their founders so that they could be allowed to thrive without having to worry and the death of the founder because with shares in the stock market, people could own parts of t he company, there was never one person who was the sole owner. Additionally, in the late nineteenth century, there werent regulations which allowed the businesses to grow in ways which it wouldnt be allowed to grow today. Often times, vertical integration allowed several types of industries to be grouped under one big company thus securing their operation. All these things helped the businesses prosper. Since the big businesses were behind the large-scale industries, the industries prospered too. Essential to the growth of large scale industry are the workers. Between 1870 and 1890, 8 million immigrants came to America for a better life, they ended up working in factories. Unlike the native workers, the immigrants were willing to work for cheap. This let the industry cut the cost of employing workers, in fact, many industries went to European sources to find workers for more cheap labor. The native Americans who, generally, were driven from the countryside got the higher paying supervisory jobs in the industries. So this pool of labor further allowed the large scale industries to grow more. The working conditions in these industries were horrible. Cutting costs in an industry was a big deal. Unfortunately, most of the time, cutting costs meant long hours for the workers, lower wages and requirements on the amount of work you do in a day which was usually too much. Because of these bad conditions labor unions were formed to protest against them, but mostly to force the companies to higher wages, lower hours or better working conditions. Since workers were essential to the operation of the industries, the labor unions often organized strikes to demand change in wage, hours etc In 1877 when wages for the workers in the Baltimore and Ohio railroad were cut by 20% there was the first nationwide strike that set the path for an era of confrontation between labor unions and management. Often, federal troops and state militia intervened because the strikes got violent and the movement collapsed but sometimes strikes were successful. .u9fd10b445d9a8bb6b83d8682a073a717 , .u9fd10b445d9a8bb6b83d8682a073a717 .postImageUrl , .u9fd10b445d9a8bb6b83d8682a073a717 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u9fd10b445d9a8bb6b83d8682a073a717 , .u9fd10b445d9a8bb6b83d8682a073a717:hover , .u9fd10b445d9a8bb6b83d8682a073a717:visited , .u9fd10b445d9a8bb6b83d8682a073a717:active { border:0!important; } .u9fd10b445d9a8bb6b83d8682a073a717 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u9fd10b445d9a8bb6b83d8682a073a717 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u9fd10b445d9a8bb6b83d8682a073a717:active , .u9fd10b445d9a8bb6b83d8682a073a717:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u9fd10b445d9a8bb6b83d8682a073a717 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u9fd10b445d9a8bb6b83d8682a073a717 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u9fd10b445d9a8bb6b83d8682a073a717 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u9fd10b445d9a8bb6b83d8682a073a717 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u9fd10b445d9a8bb6b83d8682a073a717:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u9fd10b445d9a8bb6b83d8682a073a717 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u9fd10b445d9a8bb6b83d8682a073a717 .u9fd10b445d9a8bb6b83d8682a073a717-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u9fd10b445d9a8bb6b83d8682a073a717:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: New Deal Essay PaperThe industrial revolution between 1865 and 1900 set a period of economic growth. The success of this industrial growth was due to a combination of contributing factors. A rise in demand for industrial goods along with growth in big business were the essential things in causing the growth of large-scale industry. Additionally new inventions that helped the manufacturing of these goods and cheap labor encouraged further this growth. In the big picture, this industrialization of the country fueled the growth of it in area, in population and finally, in economy. Bibliography:

The Article Rate Of Temperature Increase In Human Muscle During 1MHz A

The article "Rate of temperature increase in human muscle during 1MHz and 3MHz continuous ultrasound" was based on a study where twenty-four college students were used to see the effectiveness of ultrasound for tissue temperature rise. The students had thermistors inserted into their left mediceps surae muscle belly, to measure the tissue temperature at different frequencies and intensities. Twelve students were used to measure tissue temperature at 1MHz and the other twelve were used for 3MHz. All were lying prone and participated in four applications of the ultrasounds at different intensities: .5,1.0,1.5. and 2.0 w/cm2 each for ten minutes. The study proved that ultrasound is effective in heating tissues and that stronger intensities may have to be used to heat deeper tissues.

Technology Intergrated Into Our Lives

Technology Intergrated Into Our Lives Free Online Research Papers The recent development of technology made possible for us to live in ways that have never been possible before. From accessing massive information to enriched personal lifestyle, technology continues to push the boundary of our living standard every day. It is undoubtedly true that technology is increasingly becoming an important part of our daily lives. Since Internet was first released, it has changed and improved in many ways. It is foolish to underestimate the change that easy and widespread access to the Internet has made to our way of life. The web is now so popular, fast and common that it has become a part of our everyday life, changing the method of how we share and finding information, staying in touch, real-time online services, and even helping people with disability. Surfing the Internet is a global phenomenon. It has been expanded its reach and influence. It is an individuals online public commentary on whatever takes their interest on a particular day. For instance, Employers want to hire employees; they post job with description and qualification that are looking for that position in their website. The other side, employees who are looking for jobs, search job postings and if they found jobs that are interested in, they sent e-mail or fax their resume. Also they can search the company profile in website where is information of company history, products, and job environment. Actually I am doing this way for searching job as well. Another simple example of the technological improvement bringing changes to our everyday life would be mailing. We used to write letters to stay in touch with those living far away, and if our correspondent was very special, we used our trusty film cameras to take pictures and include them in the letter. The process would have included developing the photographs-waiting anywhere from an hour to days to get the prints. Wed then hand over the cash, go home, put everything in the envelope, stick a stamp on it and post it off. Nowadays, we grab our digital camera, take as many shots as we want, upload them directly on to our PCs, attach a copy to an e-mail and send it off into the recipient. No more delivery charges, no more postage is needed, regardless of the time. It is even possible to send Spam-mails to hundreds of people in an instant! People with certain disabilities can also benefit from the technological advancement People with disabilities can receive enquiries via Internet, phone or fax. They can equip themselves with machines that can help them move, communicate, work or relax. Medical support is made a lot easier with patient monitoring equipments. Future technological discoveries will probably further increase the living of the disabled. A whole new revolution in technology has sprung up dedicated to providing new ways to improve productivity, in the process changing how we communicate and allowing us to fit ever more into our ever busier lives. I wonder what the future holds for us and the Internet, and if services like Google Earth are anything to go by, the future is going to be pretty amazing stuff. Online shopping is the process consumers go through to purchase products or services over the internet. Shopping on the internet is quick and convenient and should be no riskier than buying by mail order or on the phone. We have found some great ideas for Birthday gifts, Wedding presents and gifts for all of our friends and family, whatever the occasion. Furthermore, Shopping online is all about comparing prices and finding the best deal possible. It could save time and go though the locations for delivery. Now I can order some Pizza for lunch nearby, special warm knitted sweater for my mother in Korea as well. Business Strategy Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words - 1

Business Strategy - Assignment Example Its close proximity to the Mexican city makes it a hotspot and many investors find it an ideal place. This is because, even though there is lots of news on criminal activities, Morelia has a good security network. In addition, it is home to Mexico’s leading learning institutions, which again make it a vital place for any investor’s growth. However, for the city to realize such a sensitive dream, both the local and national governments have to back it up because it proves to be viable for IT. From the article summarized above, the most evident concept is outsourcing. Briefly, outsourcing is a business strategy in which organizations transfer non-core activities and liabilities to external firms in order to attain a competitive advantage (Gamble, et al 115). Morelia is a city with high outsourcing capabilities since it is need of information technology. ClusterTIM is a very huge IT company in the city and has the potential to outsource. The major targets are Ecosistemas, which is digital animation company; Deipi, a renowned international IT and marketing consulting company; Konexo, a contact center; and Scio Consulting, a company credited with software development. In addition, ClusterTIM has outsourced close to 37 business entities and is in collaboration with 22 universities. This makes the dream of being an IT based city a valid dream. By outsourcing services from all the mentioned entities, Morelia, through ClusterTIM will obtain three key advantages. One, there will be an overall decrease in costs. This in return, will act as a stimulant especially for the IT sector which is a new product. Universities have fresh knowledge and thus by outsourcing their services, it will be easy to get superior talents beyond the ClusterTIM’s in house capability. In a good way, it will help eliminate idle capacity and give the chance of

Discussion 5 Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words - 1

Discussion 5 - Assignment Example According to the nurse, some patients or patients’ associates may turn hostile or physical at worst, especially when a health worker reveals certain disturbing information to them such as the loss of a loved one or the failure of a surgical procedure done on a person close them. The issue is related to the ethical principle of nonmaleficence because the nurse may have to decide between retaliating and upholding professionalism (Kjervik & Brous, 2010). Understanding the concerns of the advanced practice nurse provides me with an insight into the complexities involved in adjudicating similar ethical issues in my practice. The understanding demonstrates to me the need to be prudent in my conduct. An issue facing the Patient Protect and Affordable Care Act is the increased backlog of patients that physicians have to attend to due to the expansion of medical coverage that have accrued from the implementation of the act. Shortage of nurses in the U.S accentuates the problem from this issue. While expanding coverage to the uninsured Americans is good, physicians’ increased backlog might delay patients’ access to care because of inadequate healthcare workforce. A legal issue surrounding the increased backlog of patients for the few available physicians is the challenge to expand the scope of practice for non-physician health professionals in order to help reduce the backlog. Laws regulating the scope of practice of health practitioners have always required that physicians supervise the practice of other non-physician practitioners. This policy will provide a window for me as an advanced practice nurse to exercise my specific role complementing that of physicians (Le Buhn & Swankin, 2010). One of the changes that I would make to the Affordable Care Act is to expand the role of advanced practice nurses by charging them with management of health homes. Advanced

Bullying and the effects on the individuals Essay Example for Free

Bullying and the effects on the individuals Essay Abstract The purpose of this paper is to explain what is bullying and the consequences of bullying. Bullying is where the bullier intentially causes physical harm or emotional stress to the victim. Bullies are angry and aggressive and dominate their victims and choose their targets by weakness and vulnerability and the victim is non dominant and usually does not fight back. There are severe warning signs that this is not a normal behavior and usually starts as a child and can still be a behavior done in adulthood. There are four different types of bullying and several descriptive behaviors. Bullying can lead to severe self-esteem issues. Aggressive behavior, dominant individual who abuses power by threating less dominant individual. Behavior is repeated or has potential to become repetitive over time. Bullying includes making threats spreading rumors, attacking someone or seclusion. This can be in person or anonymously by being a cyber-bully. This is important because bullying or being bullied appear to indicate that something is wrong and children who experience bullying either as aggressor or a victim need help. Bullying start as a child and without help it can grow into a big issue to deal with as an adult. Types There are three most common types of bullying and numerous tactics used when targeting their victims. Bullies intend to harm their victims with power imbalance. Power imbalance is crucial for the bully because their victim  cannot defend themselves. Power difference can be age, size, or strength. The victim as a result can feel weak, small, vulnerable, scared and dumb. There is typically more than one time that the bully will attack there same victim. Weather it is the same act or different behaviors on the victim. The third aspect on bully behaviors is the intentions to cause harm another person. The bully harasses people on purpose. Their behavior is not a â€Å"joke† or accident. The victim feels embarrassed, ashamed, angry, or scared. There are different forms of bullying; physical, verbal, cyber and relational aggression. Physical involves hitting, kicking, pushing, tripping, stealing or breaking property. Verbal abuse hurts the victim emotionally with words. Name calling, threating, yelling, intimidation and laughing. Relational uses other people to hurt their victims. This is more hurtful to some people because their friends are talking behind their back. The bully spreads rumors and gossip around. The last form is cyberbullying which is done with improved technology. This can be over the internet, email, text or social media. The bully can interact relational and verbal forms. Name calling, insults and lies or threats can lead to physical harm to the victim. This can happen 24/7 and anonymously. So it is harder to find out who is the bully. There are many influences that the bully has and that is the reason why the bully has certain behaviors. Gender, orientation, environment, family problems, race or developmental problems. The bully usually has anger issues and experiences some type of abuse. The person takes out their feelings on someone who can or will not fight back. The bully may be physically and verbally abused by parents or older siblings. So when they are around someone who is not a threat they tend to do the same abuse to the victim to feel superior and worthy. The parents may have substance abuse, emotional issues, low self-esteem, single parent household and many other reasons. The family is not connected and bad communication. Lack of rules may also play a role. The victims have low self-esteem because they feel powerless. They listen and believe what is said to them and about them. They may feel helpless,  hopeless hurt non worthy and have negative outcomes, anxiety and depression. These can lead to substance abuse, drinking and lack of motivation, eating disorders and increase risk of suicide. These are main of bullying. Conclusion In conclusion bullying is a nationwide problem and it has major problems that affect another human being. This usually starts as a child and never ends without proper treatment. There is a behavior problem that is not normal to intentially cause harm to another person. there are many factors that influence the bully behavior. The victim as a result has low self-esteem. Depression and anxiety. The dominant and less dominant parties need and is recommended to get counseling to reduce long term constiquences. The improved bullying is done with updated technology and can remain unknown. Logic of the Absurds :: Free Essay Writer

Logic of the Absurds Man's fundamental bewilderment and confusion, stems from the fact that man has no answers to the basic existential questions: why we are alive, why we have to die, why there is injustice and suffering, all this serve as the impetus for such a thinking. Man constantly wonders about the truth of life and realizes that the more you expect from it, the more it fails you or may be the more we expect from ourselves the more we find ourselves engaging in a futile battle with the odds. May be the truth is the realization of our limitations and the potency of these odds that press you down with their brutal truths†¦.†¦.brutal?, can the truth be brutal. But the truth is the God, ourselves, the destiny that rules us and fashions us, after a strange decree which we fail to unravel. "What do I know about man's destiny? I could tell you more about radishes." -Samuel Beckett Concerning itself with such questions is the genre of literature is the movement called ‘THE THEATRE OF THE ABSURD’. The Theatre of the Absurd (50's) draws on the existentialist writings of Jean Paul Sartre and Albert Camus. Camus adapted Dostoyevsky's The Possesed to the stage (1959). Mostly, his writing was concerned with the dilemma of individuals who believe that values are relative but who cannot live without moral commitment. Camus argues that humanity has to resign itself to recognizing that a fully satisfying rational explanation of the universe is beyond its reach; thus the world must ultimately be seen as absurd. The underpinnings of the Theatre of the Absurd are derived from these existentialist ideas that led to Absurdism. Absurdism teaches, much like Camus, that, that which cannot be justified in a rational manner is absurd. Since religion requires a "leap of faith"(Kierkegaard) it is absurd, just as life itself is absurd. The Theater of the Absurd refers to tendencies in dramatic literature that emerged in Paris during the late 1940s and early '50s in the plays of Arthur Adamov, Fernando Arrabal, Samuel Beckett, Jean Genet, Eugene Ionesco, and Jean Tardieu. A term coined by the critic Martin Esslin, 'The Theatre of the Absurd' refers to the work of a number of playwrights, mostly written in the 1950s and 1960s. Its roots lie in an essay by the French philosopher Albert Camus. In his 'Myth of Sisyphus', written in 1942, he first defined the human situation as basically meaningless and absurd.

Hockey Sticks

The hockey stick, the most basic piece of equipment, is also the most confounding. While other pieces of gear either fit or don’t fit, the stick defies such a simple categorization. It’s more like buying a pizza. Size is the easy part—options are where things get tricky. Stick technology has come along way from the days when players found a nice piece of hickory and started whittling. Sticks today come in a number of materials that in themselves can be overwhelming. These range from wooden shafts with ABS plastic blades, to traditional wood and fiberglass, to full Kevlar and Carbon Fiber. Prices can vary by a factor of ten, with a very simple stick costing around $20 and top end exotics surpassing the $200 mark. Today’s stick market has as much variety as the grocery store’s breakfast isle. The three main kinds of sticks are: Wooden Sticks, Two-piece sticks and blades, One-piece composite sticks The Wooden Stick The wooden stick has been around since the inception of hockey. Despite the many improvements in this most basic piece of hockey gear, there are still a few NHL pros using wood sticks. Still the numbers are dwindling from about half the league using wood several years ago, to just a handful now. Another reason some players still prefer wood might be feel. One thing that technology hasn’t improved is the feel. If you cannot catch a pass, or stickhandle through the defense, there isn’t much point in being able to shoot an extra ten miles per hour. Many Pros are now using a composite shaft with a wood blade as a compromise between the best of both worlds. Beyond the obvious issue of having the plainest stick in the locker room, the negative of a wood stick is simple durability. Even if you are like me and don’t break many sticks, wood will wear out. Shooting the puck hard requires flexing the shaft and getting a good pop, almost like a bow releasing an arrow. The fibers in wooden sticks break down fairly quickly and the spring that you need in releasing a shot gets weaker. Wooden sticks are the smartest choice for beginning players. The cost of a composite stick balanced against the minimal gain a beginner might get doesn’t make sense. Until beginners learn to shoot, poke check and stick handle and stand up on skates adequately; there isn’t much point in spending big bucks on a composite stick. Trust me; no one looks any less silly falling down with a $200 stick than they do with a $20 stick. Two-piece Shafts and Blades Two-piece sticks have been around for a while. The blade and shaft, sold separately, are hot-glued together with a heat gun. Originally making its debut in the medium of aluminum, the two-piece shaft is now available in such exotic materials as Carbon Fiber, Graphite and Kevlar. Some lower priced shafts are pure fiberglass making them heavier and more prone to breakage. Aluminum shafts lasted almost forever and are still a favorite of many players who own one, but they are almost impossible to find. The advantages in a two-piece stick are lighter weight, more consistent performance and longevity. The type of a blade selected can change the weight somewhat, but it will generally weigh less than a wooden stick. This translates into slightly quicker stick handling for the player. One downside to buying a two-piece is the cost. Even an inexpensive shaft and blade will cost twice what a wooden stick goes for. Realistically, the cheapest shaft on the market will cost about $40 and a low-end blade for it about $25. More likely you will spend over $150 to get a two-piece stick of decent quality. However, since the largest numbers of breakages in sticks occur at the blade, the two-piece is an attractive option after the initial investment. Two-piece shafts and blades are interchangeable between brands. Junior and Senior are the two basic blade sizes. The shafts come in Junior, Senior and Intermediate sizes with intermediate shafts accepting senior blades. Tapered two-piece sticks are typically the top performing two-piece sticks and priced accordingly. The Modern One Piece Sticks The term one-piece stick used to simply refer to a wooden stick that wasn’t broken. Now it refers to the expensive, featherweight, composite jobs that would make NASA proud. (The price tags are starting to get into the NASA range too). The one-piece stick is the newest of stick options. Easton’s very popular Synergy started the craze and remains among the most popular choices today. The one-piece is the lightest of the three basic choices available, and widely considered the top performer as well. A one-piece stick will have a very nice, almost weightless feel to it when even the casual player picks it up. The one-piece is made of carbon fiber or Kevlar. One-piece sticks are probably the most hyped up piece of hockey equipment today. Every brand seems to have their own unique design, from holes in the shaft, to a spine on the blade like a two-piece; the one piece is a durable, high performance choice. The one-piece will give most players many months of quality play. There is little argument that a good player will notice a more powerful shot with a one-piece stick. So perhaps the biggest downside to the one-piece stick is their position as the most expensive option. The price of a one-piece is generally comparable to that of a two-piece initially but does top out much higher. Not only is the initial investment sometimes higher, but in order to keep that same high level of performance, players will need to buy a new stick every time they break one. As you can see there are a variety of sticks to choose from and not every person will like the same stick. Even with all this information I just gave to you, it still might be hard for you to choose one that you will like. It's not something your friend can help you pick out because it's more of your opinion and how it feels in your hands. Hockey is a sport where the gear and theme of the game are both independent, the help of others is useful but at the end of the day, it’s on your shoulders; it’s your choice that makes the final decision.

Lockean Philosophy in Jonathan Swifts Gullivers Travels

An Exploration of Lockean Philosophy in Gullivers Travels Ricardo Quintana asserts in his study Two Augustans that even though Swift as a traditional philosophical realist dismissed Lockian empiricism with impatience, he recognized in Lockian political theory an enforcement of his own convictions (76). It may be argued, however, than when two contemporary authors, such as Locke and Swift, are shaped within the same matrix of cultural forces and events, they reveal through their respective works a similar ideology. The purpose of this paper is twofold: first, to explore the parallels between Lockes Some Thoughts Concerning Education and Swifts Gullivers Travels, using textual evidence and literary criticism; and†¦show more content†¦The general relation of deferential and hierarchal practices in society, as reflected in the political changes, combined with Lockes Some Thoughts Concerning Education to open the way for a new era in parent-child relations . . . (407). Augustan perspective, common to Locke and Swift, reflected the intellectual outlook and general temper shared by the greater number of educated persons of the time (Quintana 52). This belief system greatly influenced the writings of both Locke and Swift, linking the foundations of their literature to a common source or state-of-mind. The Augustan outlook was a compromise between the old system of established principles and protocol, from the secular to the religious, and the revolutionary new concepts that challenged the very foundations of that system. In particular, students of this school of thought challenged conservative religious views concerning creation and the relationship between Nature and Reasonemdash;two topics that Locke explored in his writing. Prior to Locke and his contemporaries, it was universally held that God was the sole creator of the world, and that the Law of Nature was binding among all men, taking precedence over individual reason and advantage. In Some Thoughts Concerning Education, Lockes view of parent-child relationships relies on a careful balance between tolerant political authority, as presented in the Second Treatise of Civil Government, and the moral and philosophical aspects of
